Diamond and Pearl Follow-up – Coming Soon

According to the latest issue of CoroCoro, details on the follow-up title release to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS are expected to be revealed in next month’s issue — on sale May 15th…

From the image above we can see a listing, or rather a timeline of all past Pokemon handheld titles, including Red/Green, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, and Diamond/Pearl — with Blue, Crystal and Emerald also shown in parenthesis. However there’s a gap open for 2008. Be sure to check back once more details are announced.

  1. It will be the third version of the DS games. I mean, they are remarking the other third versions released in parentheses.

  3. When I try to think what the new type of gem/color is going to be for this new game, Amethyst is screaming in my head.

But I also want to go with Pearly Diamond!

  5. We also know that Giratina and the Bouquet in the Icy Sky will feature 2 new 5th generation pokemon. While here in the states it’s too early to think of a new generation game, it’s been about a year and a half since Diamond and Pearl were released in Japan, and therefore, the timing is about right.

But I believe that the 2008 Pokemon game will be the D/P follow up, as we’ve gotten follows to every major Pokemon release. I’m interested in knowing details on how it improves the experience. It’s hard to imagine, because to me, Diamond and Pearl feel complete as games. I’ve been playing for over 550 hours, and that’s just my US Diamond version. Factor in the time I spent playing my JP Pearl and my US Pearl, and I may have played for hundreds of hours more. And I still enjoy it. I’m just saying, the follow-up has to have some compelling new mechanism to catch my interest.

I’m hearing talk on alternate forms for Giratina and Shaymin, and a third game would be a good way to support them, like the 3rd gen supported new forms for Deoxys.

I’m looking forward to May 15th.
