    1. The Kirara Carat/Hobunsha contingent has seen both extremes of the emotional scale as the first round’s final results are in. The Ume-sensei union vote finally pulls through as Nori saves the Hidamari delegation from embarassment and snatches a victory at the last possible moment. Maybe this makes up for last year’s loss when she lost in a split vote along with Sae. Anyway, the technological artist now flies the sun banner by herself into the second round. However, the other computer user is now relegated as Yui I. fell to Amy and Gargantia’s lone star advances to the next round despite a very even battle.
Unfortunately, for two teams, shutouts could not be averted, and their teams are forced to suffer without wins this year. Team Vividred’s operation was disastrous, having showed much promise after the preliminary rounds only to fall victim to a lousy random draw. The fact that the top three were all knocked out in the rough Block B had taken the wind out of their sails and sent them to oblivion. Ayumu’s third straight first-round loss ends the Hayate campaign with its worst record at 0-7. Before this year, team Hayate had always made the third round or higher. Barring another anime adaptation, the Hayate contingent finishes with 54 total victories divided among nine fighters over their six-year tenure, and is the only team to send three different characters into three consecutive Elite Eights and get any character into four consecutive quarterfinals as well—truly worthy opponents throughout their career.
Back to more positive news as Kuroko and Sayaka advanced over their weak competition pretty easily. The teleporter joins five other Academy City teammates into the next round. The victory by the blue paladin has tied team Saki’s consecutive winning streak at 27 wins, and the Puellae Magi can break this with a flourish in today’s heated battles.
It’s time for the second round to begin, and for the contestants in the relegation pool, their times will be up if the fighter they lost to gets knocked out of the main bracket. Now we are down to three battles at once, as Blocks A through C commence simultaneously. Of course, all eyes are on the Block B upper quarter fight. Which Puella Magi is going to challenge Ayase for the first round 3 spot? Homura is more than likely, but those who still want Akiyama-dono to get a second chance are reluctant and want Madoka to succeed. With the boost that Ayase got in the recently-completed Oreimo storyline, the yandere wants to slice the gap wide open, and she should have team Saki’s fans behind her as well. Whichever way it goes, at least one Puella Magi’s run will most likely end today—having the two lovers finish 1-2 in some order is very risky for the PMMM faction. However, a strike against a potential Ayase win comes in the Block A fixture, where Mami is expected to blow away Yozora and Iwai—the Neighbors’ Club founder should take second and replace a couple of people in the second-chance draw. Over in C, Mori-sama tries to keep the Chuunibyou power going (no matter how much she wants to deny having the sickness), but the threat of a cephalopod invasion is always looming. Yuzuko might be overrun here and will finish with the lone Yuyushiki victory.
