    1. A multitude of things can be said about yesterday’s record turnout. Block C had lots of swings in momentum as the squid and Shinka fought a huge fight, but the cephalopod invasion has been halted in the second round for the second year in a row as Mori-sama continues onward to the duel rounds. Mami’s victory in Block A ended up being the 28th and final consecutive victory for the Puellae Magi. Snipe attempts by Yozora (as part of the ticket with Ayase) were not enough to get ahead of the 2011 champion, and so she has to wait for a repechage attempt now.
And now the huge news in Block B, in which the fixture took a very strange turn. While most of us were expecting that Homura wants redemption from last year’s exit, another shock occurred in that Madoka was chosen to duel Oreimo’s #2 rank Ayase. Unfortunately for the magical girl supporters, their choice was not unanimous, and “Lovely My Angel Ayase-tan” successfully broke the gap wide open and delivered the most decisive upset thus far. The split vote became too much for the two lead heroines of team PMMM to bear and both have been knocked out of the main bracket. So while Mitakigahara witnessed a rather bittersweet day in the proceedings, there was no doubt that supporters of team Saki were elated with the news that two of their biggest enemies are gone from the other end of the Group of Death. With that, Ayase has demolished three magical girls at once: Homura is completely eliminated by finishing in the cellar, Madoka tumbles down to a repechage berth, and Nanoha’s relegation spot has been vaporized. The Panzer IV is now one-fifth permanently crippled as Yukari’s second-chance berth has been crushed as well.
The kettle is still hot in Block B as its second quarter fight is crowded with four fighters again. The Shindouji tank Kirame survived a tie from a late onslaught by Nobuna on her quest to rule the battlefield. With no clear-cut candidate to chip at Kirame this time around, this could be another duel between the two benefactors, as Nobuna seems the likeliest by virtue of being a main character. Yuu again is the helper for Subara’s votes, as the Achiga sergeant needs to avoid a snipe by the likelier attacker Ririchiyo. There is no clear favorite in the C fight. It’s unlikely that the winner here can defeat Shinka, but Azusa is more likely to advance over Niko, with Mako stuck in reverse and unable to wake up in time.

    2. Group B: what can I say? Looks like the Madoka faction got screwed over by the split voting. Now I wonder if they’re so butt-hurt now that they’re going to go for revenge the way they did a couple years ago the last time Homura lost. For this next round – for Block A I gotta go with Chiyo. For B I guess I’ll go with Nobuna. For C….damn, how the Hell am I supposed to choose? Azusa is impressively cute, but I really like Mako. Guess I’ll go with Niko, since she’s my fave Muse Idol and the Panzer crew haven’t been doing all that hot so far in the competition. Besides she has the twin-tail advantage.
EDIT: Happy that Shinka won, but surprised. Didn’t think the squid would fall that easily.
